Austin Dance India
Austin dance india is currently closed for enrollment
Austin Dance India offers all levels of classes in traditional Bharata Natyam technique. Lessons begin with extensive time spent on practice of adavus, or series of steps, which are the building blocks of the dance. Along with this practical aspect, students learn theoretical terms in the form of Sanskrit verses from the text, Abhinaya Darpana. These verses contain explanation and detailed definitions of hand symbols, head and eye movements, positioning of the arms, stances, and more.
Students are expected to practice at home as they progress through the levels. Students and parents are guided on how to develop a disciplined approach to a regular home practice that can make all the difference in a student’s progress.
ADI’s teaching philosophy emphasizes dance as a means of developing discipline, passion, self discovery, and mental focus. Instruction is based on thoughtfully developed approach that provides students with an opportunity to discover their own inner strengths as they progress. Although ADI’s students participate in local community events and annual showcase, the emphasis is on the joy of learning rather than performing or accolades. Each student can discover the strength, grace, beauty that lies within themselves as they go through the technique.
Limited private lessons are available to students who prefer an individualized program of study at an advanced level or an in depth look into particular aspects of the dance.
As of 2018, Austin Dance India will continue to offer classes for its current students but is presently closed to new registrations. ADI’s goal is to continue to focus on training and mentoring these young students for the next several years so that they receive the utmost time and individual attention necessary for them to achieve their objectives.

BOOTCAMP IS BACK THIS SEMESTER!
Students will attend adavu bootcamps twice this semester instead of regularly scheduled classes! Except for new beginners, for that week all other students will attend either the Beginner/Level 1 or Level II/III class. These can also be used for make up classes. Reminders will be sent out one week prior to the scheduled date. So no regular classes that week. Everyone (except new beginners) attends one of the bootcamp classes. If you usually attend two classes a week, then attend both bootcamps that week!
Tuesdays TBA 7-8 pm Beginner 2/Level 1 | 8-9 pm Level II/III
Saturdays TBA 9:45-10:45 am Beginner 2/Level 1 | 10:45-11:45 am Level II/III
